It's Timeless!

A Conversation with Yomo Daj on Putting Couples On!

We are always drawn to creatives who bring meaning and authenticity into wedding styling. Yomo Daj stands out for the way he weaves culture, individuality, and timeless elegance into each look. His work is not just about fashion. It is about telling stories of love, identity, and heritage through intentional design.

WC: What’s one couple whose style you loved bringing to life, and what made their look truly “them”?

Yomo Daj: Grace and Ife’s 2023 wedding still lives rent-free in my heart. Their brief was simple: timeless elegance with cultural soul. We styled them in regal gold tones; Grace in a hand-embellished corset and wrapper with detailed lacework, and Ife in a richly woven agbada that carried depth and softness. Their style wasn’t performative. it was intentional, true to their personalities, and rooted in tradition. That authenticity made their look unmistakably them.

WC: How do you balance trends with personal expression when styling a wedding?

Yomo Daj: Trends can guide, but they shouldn’t define. We always start with the couple’s essence, their background, vibe, and how they want to be remembered. From there, we find silhouettes, palettes, and accessories that elevate their uniqueness. We’ll pull in trends where they enhance the story, but never at the expense of individuality. A wedding look should feel like a signature, not a copy.

“A wedding look should feel like a signature, not a copy.”

WC: Can you share a moment where your styling made a couple feel deeply seen or connected to their culture?

Yomo Daj: With Jordan and Nneka, it was their Igbo traditional wedding that hit different. From the textured red lace on her mono-sleeved dress to the coral beads, fan, and horsetail accessorizing their look, it wasn’t just fashion, it was ancestral homage. Jordan’s ‘Okosisi’ fan and Isiagu-influenced wrapper combo gave true king energy. When they saw themselves in full attire, they lit up. Jordan turned to Nneka and said, “Now this is our tribe showing up.” That moment? Pure alignment. Style met heritage and it was magic.

Yomo Daj proves that styling is far more than clothing. It is a narrative of culture, elegance, and memory woven together with intention. Whether curating regal gold for Grace and Ife or honoring Igbo heritage for Jordan and Nneka, Daj shows that weddings can embody both timeless beauty and deep personal meaning. His work is a reminder that fashion fades, but authenticity leaves a lasting mark on history and inspires generations to come.
